Guilty Gear Accent Core Plus makes some changes for PSP

Monday 30 June 2008 @ 10:06 pm

Filed under:

While our translation tools are far from perfect, we think we’ve gotten the gist of what’s mentioned on the GameWatch website. This is going to be the biggest Guilty Gear title to-date with 25 characters and what appears to be 3-on-3 battles. Since this is on the PSP, ad-hoc capability is going to get some attention. Playing ranked matches in that mode will net you higher rankings based on if you win or lose a number of times.

There’s over 350 scenes and full voice acting for the scenarios, but you can also choose Mission Mode and get some sort of reward for clearing that (an illustration per character?). In addition, there’s Survival Mode where you can choose one character and grow them to be pretty much unstoppable there. If any of our translation came out wrong, let us know, but the game’s getting a release July 24 … we’re assuming the 2006 we got in our translation is a typo and they mean 2008. Get ready to import! Let’s rock!

More Dissdia: Final Fantasy details from Famitsu

Monday 30 June 2008 @ 5:06 pm

Filed under:

Earlier in the month, Tidus and Jecht were revealed via Famitsu to be part of the roster of Dissidia: Final Fantasy. PSPHyper now has more details from that same issue of Famitsu. A battle system with HP and Brave points, which is the determinant of your character’s power, is elaborated upon. Brave points are used to make HP Attacks, depleting your opponent’s HP. Special moves can also be used this way and are earned by leveling up and they are unique to each character. An indicator that helps the player time each press of the button will appear during these special moves.

When your EX gauge becomes full, you enter EX mode, which is a Limit Break-esque state that will power up your character and perform up to four types of transformations. Gil, the currency of the Final Fantasy world, has also been revealed as part of the game but what it does is currently unknown. Gilding has also been shown as a means of movement. Despite its RPG roots, Dissdia’s RPG elements are limited to leveling up and choices regarding treasure chests and enemies.

Nomura also assures us the reason the game is taking so long simply because each character has many moves and transformations, and their team wants to make them look perfect. As reported before, there will be 20 characters in the final cast and currently 50% of the game is done. To learn more, the entire article is available here.

Worldwide PSP releases for the week of June 29

Sunday 29 June 2008 @ 11:06 pm

Filed under:

There’s nothing this week for North Americans. Seems we’re slipping back into the dark ages again. However, John Koller says a dark age is not on the verge. He says the titles are coming. Hear that people? The titles are coming. We’re looking forward to a PSP renaissance.

NA Games:

  • No new releases

EU Games:

Asian Games:

Elsewhere in the world, since there are places other than North America, we’re seeing a lot of stuff that isn’t really “new” per se.

PSP games go on sale at amazon.com

Some good deals here for those looking to expand their PSP collections.

Our pick? Viewtiful Joe. If you’re looking for some mini-games, you may be interested in WTF. MLB and NBA are both rather solid sports titles for the handheld. Just make sure you avoid Gangs of London at all costs.

Visit CAG for more deals on other platforms.

Rumor: Star Soldier collection of four games in September

Sunday 29 June 2008 @ 5:06 pm

This is classified as a rumor, but it really makes too much sense for it to be false. A collection of four Star Soldier games will be released by Hudson under the banner of PC Engine Best Collection. The collection will include Star Star Soldier, Final Soldier, Soldier Blade and the never-before-released in the US Star Parodier. It will retail for the budget price of 2,940 yen (less than $30) which might translate to even lower if and when it is ever brought over to the US. Some of us here loved the Star Soldier series growing up and would love to relive those memories on the PSP.

Macross Ace Frontier shows you its ‘3-Stage Transformation’

Sunday 29 June 2008 @ 5:06 pm

Filed under:

Twenty-three new screenshots of Macross Ace Frontier have been gathered over at PSPHyper. Some information on the game has been released as well. Contrary to what was reported earlier, the game will allow you to pilot a Variable Fighter from all five works of the Macross series. More than 30 different characters will make an appearance in the game, with each pilot and mech containing their own upgradeable attributes to help you prepare for the 80+ missions planned. A animated gif showcases a “3-Stage Transformation,” which will be done with the analog stick. “Characteristics” from the anime will act as aspects in the game, such as “Mechanism,” “Love” and “Song.” For more details and screenshots, take a look here.

Patent reveals touchscreen handheld device from Phil Harrison

Saturday 28 June 2008 @ 11:06 pm

Filed under:

Panajev2001a from the NeoGAF forums has discovered a series of patents that point to a new handheld device from Sony. The patents, filed in January, refer to a “hand-held device with touchscreen and digital tactile pixels.” The patent is assigned to Sony Computer Entertainment America, and the inventor is credited to be Phil Harrison, former head of Sony Computer Entertainment Worldwide Studios.

This patent could describe the next PSP (or PSP Phone). However, it could take years for anything to surface after a patent filing. Some patents (like this one) haven’t seen the light of day. With a touch screen and motion sensing capabilities, whatever this new device is will be able to match the functionality of devices like the iPhone. Intriguing. Can’t wait to find out more.

[Thanks, Noshino!]
