Ask PSP Fanboy: Volume 37

Sunday 31 August 2008 @ 11:08 pm

Filed under:

It’s the end of the week, which calls for a new volume of Ask PSP Fanboy! Each week we’ll collect your questions, and each weekend a new volume of Ask PSP Fanboy will appear on the front page. If you’ve got a question, send an email to justin.eaton @ weblogsinc .com with the subject “Ask PSP Fanboy.”

Q: Do you know if, when connected to a standard definition TV (like an old Trinitron, to keep it in the family), will games still show up within a black letterbox frame? You know, on all four sides, not just top and bottom. I think standard def TV is 640×480, so that would mean the PSP’s 480×272 resolution wouldn’t fill it up, but a guy can dream can’t he?
A: Unfortunately, you will see those letterbox bars when playing through a TV that does not support the local resolution. There are some video settings you can play around with on your PSP, but generally the black bars will be present. Sorry!

Q: Is there a way to download items from the PLAYSTATION Store over again?
A: Once you’ve logged into the PC PLAYSTATION Store, you should see a link in the top-right corner that will allow you to “View downloads.” From there you’ll have access to any content you’ve already downloaded, and can therefore re-download anything lost.

Q: How can I quickly turn off the PSPs screen, without shutting the whole thing off?
A: While you can simply flick the power button up to put your unit to sleep, I believe you’re looking to keep the handheld running, which can best be done by holding down the video button. It’s the same button you’d use to adjust your brightness, near the “start” and “select” buttons. Additionally, holding down the music button will mute your PSP.

Worldwide PSP releases for the week of August 31

Sunday 31 August 2008 @ 4:08 pm

Filed under:

It’s one of those weeks again. It’s another backlog catch-up week. Of course, there will come a time when that backlog will run out and this high frequency of down time will come back to bite one’s behind. So watch out; we wouldn’t want an epidemic of sore bums on our hands.

NA Games:

  • No new releases

EU Games:

Asian Games:

In Japan, however, three rehashed titles are now cheaper and will re-hit the store shelves. There must be some sort of racing event going on because all three games are, as you guessed it, racing games.

FALSE COPYRIGHT CLAIM BY YOU KNOW WHO!

Sunday 31 August 2008 @ 4:08 am

IMPORTANT!!! DOWNLOAD AND SAVE MY VIDEOS ! My channel has been targeted to be deleted from youtube. It could happen any day now. Viacom is not the only problem here. Youtube could have dismissed the claim, but they did not. They just accommodate them to no end here on youtube and they never lift a finger to even check to see if the claim is legitimate. Youtube doesn’t give a damn about the users here. There was nothing in the video but a couple of images and me talking. Nothing from any TV show, any movie, not even a second of a song. Nothing. Yet viacom went after that video. You can see the original video on my myspace page. I just uploaded it there for you to see for yourself. I didn’t think they would do something this blatant, but they never cease to amaze me in their public relations debacle. I don’t think they can handle this any worse. I will never buy another product that Viacom ever produces again after this latest action. Here is a link to the video that was removed by youtube:http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendid=396755906It is the top video.KEEP A CLOSE EYE ON THE HONORS OR LACK OF HONORS FOR THIS VIDEO. I WILL BE CURIOUS TO SEE IF THEY ALL GET REMOVED TO KEEP THIS VIDEO FROM SEEING THE LIGHT OF DAY. THEY KEPT THE VIACOM VS YOU VIDEO OFF THE FRONT PAGE FOR ALL BUT THE LAST 3 HOURS OF THAT VIDEOS FIRST 48 HOURS ON YOUTUBE.Youtube is just as much to blame if not more for this happening. Viacom is not the only problem. This is no longer you tube. Those days are long gone. I thought google and youtube would have a little more spine then this. They just sold us out and bow down to anything Viacom Says.

Bizarre schoolgirl fighting in new Ikki Tousen video

Saturday 30 August 2008 @ 9:08 pm

Download to PSP

Ikki Tousen: Eloquent Fist truly is a bizarre game. It’s hard to make commentary on a game that’s known for its emphasis on well-endowed school girls whose clothes seemingly explode at random. The truly strange fighting game has us asking all sorts of questions: why is she fighting random teenagers? Why are they so angry at her? How is all of this happening? Why are her clothes exploding? We’re sure for the Japanese audience (and importers) that get their hands on this, all answers will be revealed.

Sorry we’re a bit late on this one. We’ve been hosting it for a while, but only now did we have a chance to put it on the front page. Hopefully, we got this Japanese demo of the Reborn! game just in time for the Labor Day weekend. Enjoy!

1. Download the demo zip file.
2. Extract the contents of the zip file.
3. Connect your PSP to your computer using a USB cable.
4. Go to the PSP/GAME folder.
5. Copy NPJH90007 folder into the GAME directory. Make sure there are no sub-directories in this folder.

Friday 29 August 2008 @ 11:08 pm

A new 2D platformer starring everyone’s favorite penguin pals from Disgaea has just been revealed. Very little is known about the game, but the initial screenshots look quite promising; look at the quality of these sprites! More info about Prinny: Is it Okay if I’m the Main Character? will undoubtedly come when its official website launches in September.

Jecht, Tidus pure gameplay Dissidia trailer

Friday 29 August 2008 @ 10:08 pm

Download to PSP

The last Dissidia: Final Fantasy video showcase featured a set of not so beloved Final Fantasy characters — a punk onion dude and the ultra sexy Cloud of Darkness. Yet, despite that fact, the gameplay footage was still awe-inspiring and kept you drooling for more. This time around, we’ve got more of the same; however, we’re sure you’re going enjoy watching these characters a whole lot more.

Final Fantasy X’s daddy issues duo, Jecht and Tidus, show us how it’s done in this here video clip. Not only are they dishing out mad skills as usual, they’re taking the fight all around the fighting arena, giving us a sense of how large and dynamic the stages can get. It seems that every little glimpse of Dissidia that we get, it gets harder and harder to look away. Keep an eye on this one folks. This is looking to be the game to have for this year (in Japan anyway).

PSP Brite battery life will decrease by 20-30 minutes

Friday 29 August 2008 @ 9:08 pm

Filed under:

PSP main man John Koller went to Gamespot to talk about the upcoming PSP Brite, and revealed a few key facts. He admits the change is “minor,” one in a continuing series of changes the PSP may see along its proposed life cycle. Most revealing of all is his comment about battery life: the brighter screen will draw more power, diminishing battery life by 20-30 minutes.

He does say that the now-discontinued extended life battery will make a return, possibly rebranded for use with the PSP-3000 series.

Sony, here are five things you can do to make PSP better

Friday 29 August 2008 @ 5:08 pm

Filed under:

PSP news is sounding rather bleak lately — but why should it stay this way? Hey Sony, here’s five things we think you can do to make the system better for you and better for us. With these steps, we think you’ll reduce piracy, increase the amount of games and features we want, and make PSP a better, more lovable place for developers. Best of all: none of these features require a hardware reboot. Imagine, a world where PSPs of all creeds, from 1000 to 3000 can access the same benefits. We believe it can happen.
