Namco’s TGS line-up includes six PSP titles

Tuesday 30 September 2008 @ 8:09 pm

Filed under:

If you regularly read this blog, then the following Namco line-up shouldn’t be all that new. Namco is bringing six titles to show; these are namely: Idolmaster SP Perfect Sun, Idolmaster SP Wandering Star, Idolmaster SP Missing Moon, Macross Ace Frontier, Mobile Suit Gundam vs. Gundam and last but not least Tales of the World: Radiant Mythology 2.

See what we mean? You’ve probably heard about all these before in the past few months. There doesn’t seem to be any new announcements on the table — which, we must say, is just fine. Though, it would’ve been way more exciting if there was some mysterious project being worked on … something like this morning’s unannounced Sony games.

Hawaiian bus driver loves his PSP a little too much

Tuesday 30 September 2008 @ 3:09 am

Filed under:

Last week in Hawaii, Ms. Denita Waltz was horrified to see the driver of her bus engaging in something else besides, you know, bus driving — he was enjoying some gaming on his favorite portable, the PSP. Not only that, he was “speeding on the highway,” and he “had his legs and feet up on the dashboard.”

Waltz wasted no time and took out her trusty cell phone and begin recording the multitasker in action. When the bus stopped, Waltz and her son hurried off the bus. Oahn Transit Services has suspended said driver, who is an eighteen-year veteran with no complaints lodged against him in the last three years, without pay pending an investigation.

Children, don’t play and drive!

Sony Online Entertainment thinks about MMO integration on PSP

Monday 29 September 2008 @ 8:09 pm

Filed under:

Sony Online Entertainment has a lot of development planned for PS3. But what about its little sibling, the PSP? SOE president John Smedley told MTV Multiplayer that “PSP is something that we’re definitely looking at.” With so many online-ready systems in the hands of gamers worldwide, it’s an opportunity they don’t want to miss on. “We’re really starting to see a big push for PSP. We think it’s a world-class device … In the future, we see full MMOs that are designed for the PSP.”

But before diving straight into full online games on the PSP, Smedley believes online integration into existing games will come first. Imagine, a mini-game that can be played on PSP that will add to an existing game, like Free Realms. “You’re sitting there leveling up your character, you log in at home when you’re on wi-fi, and all of sudden your character has leveled up. We think those kinds of experiences are very possible.”

PSP Fanboy hands-on: Prinny: Is It Okay If I am the Main Character?

Monday 29 September 2008 @ 8:09 pm

Disgaea fans probably jumped in excitement upon hearing the news that Prinnies would be getting their own game for PSP. Prinny: Is It Okay If I Am The Main Character? is the aptly cute pseudo-2D side-scroller which is also being released in North America. While fans may be squealing in delight over that, here’s one more tidbit that’s going to make your day: you can play the game now off a demo on the Japanese PS Store. If you can’t download it or just plain old stuck at work and can’t get to it until you’re at home, then we’re providing our very own impressions for your convenience.

Getting right into it, the demo was a short, one-level adventure taking us through scenery we’ve seen in screenshots previously (namely the one posted above). As you can see, the environmental objects are 3D models and there will be times when certain actions will cause the camera to shift into this 3D perspective; however, the game is mostly in the 2D perspective, side-scrolling from left to right. Before you start the level you’ll be given two optional difficulties: either a “one-hit you’re dead” game or a “three-hit chance.” The number of hits you can take will be displayed by icons placed in the upper left corner of the screen. If you die, you’ll use up a life point which are all displayed in the bottom left.

Ask PSP Fanboy: Volume 41

Ask PSP Fanboy

It’s the end of the week, which calls for a new volume of Ask PSP Fanboy! Each week we’ll collect your questions, and each weekend a new volume of Ask PSP Fanboy will appear on the front page. If you’ve got a question, send an email to justin.eaton @ weblogsinc .com with the subject “Ask PSP Fanboy.”

Q.
Can the PSP-2000 be upgraded through firmware to display games over composite just like PSP-3000, or is that not possible?
A. The PSP-2000 only supports gaming through progressive scan, which requires component or D-terminal cables. The PSP-3000 model does support 480i, but this functionality is limited to the model, not the software.

Q. Can I ask whether or not you think that the PSP will finally support WPA2 encryption protocol in any near Firmware updated? It just annoys me how I cant connect to the WiFi at work due to the protocol not being supported! Although I do work in IT and could downgrade the security on the AP, but thats not really a good solution.
A. Several friends of mine have asked that same question, wondering why Sony hasn’t included WPA2 support. I’m unaware of any hardware restriction; I just don’t think it’s one of Sony’s priorities right now.

Q. I was wondering if there is any way to listen to music on your PSP while playing games?
A. Aside from a few select titles (GTA: LCS, NBA Live 07), playing music during gameplay is not currently possible. In fact, Sony has just recently added this functionality to the PS3, so it may be more of a hardware restriction.

So okay, Pipemania didn’t come out a week early. It’s coming out now. Blockus didn’t come out in Europe last month either and while it’s listed yet again for this week, we’re shaking our heads — it’s probably not happening. Anyway, we like seeing a full week such as this; it’s the third one in a row no less.

NA Games:

EU Games:

Asian Games:

As for Japan, they’re getting high school girls + explosive clothing … enough said.
