It was unlikely the PSP would trump its awesome sales of nearly 160,000 units last week. Nevertheless, the PSP is once again on top, selling 60,467 units. Unfortunately, Sony’s high-def console the PlayStation 3 was dead last, selling an abysmal 3,931 units. Look on the bright side though: during this week, Sony’s current-gen hardware outsold all its competitors current-gen hardware combined.
Hardware and software sales for the week of October 20th - October 26th:
- PSP — 60,467
- Wii — 24,292
- DS Lite — 22,965
- Xbox 360 — 7,844
- PS2 — 6,962
- PS3 — 3,931

Logic Sunrise took a microscope to both the PSP-2000 and 3000 to see why the 3000 has interlacing issues. At 40X magnification, it’s clear that the two screens have very different pixels. Can you see what some of the major differences are?
The 3000 series has pixels aligned horizontally, not vertically. In addition, the blues of the 3000 are much darker. These two in tandem may be behind the interlacing “feature” of the 3000 screen.

Today’s PSN update could be better and it could be worse. Just be happy Sony have seen fit to update the store two weeks in a row. Who knows, maybe we’ll see an update every week. Was that a pig that just flew past my window? Anyway, two full games are available to grab today, along with the Loco Roco 2 TGS trailer, which is definitely worth a download. Here’s the release list in handy-dandy bullet point form.
- Def Jam Fight For NY: The Takeover full game (£15.99/€19.99)
- Cool Boarders 2 full PS1 game (£3.99/€4.99)
- Loco Roco 2 TGS trailer (free)

Once upon a time there was a girl who had limited use of one of her hands. Not to worry, she is still able to game after mastering the use of a Super Nintendo controller. However, she also enjoys the PSP but is understandably reluctant to learn how to play it with one hand. What’s a gal to do?
Fortunately, a clever bloke was commissioned to create a mod for her so she can use the SNES controller to play games on her PSP. Here’s how it happened: he added a small socket originally intended for a cell phone, put together a custom cable and plug for the socket, then wired it to be used with the vintage controller. The mod even acts as a stand and keeps the PSP at an angle. A video of this in action, after the break:

The semi-official PlayStation blog ThreeSpeech has let out a list of Sony Europe’s first party titles scheduled for release in November. Apparently, both LocoRoco 2 and Buzz! Brain Bender are SCEE’s PSP offerings for the month; however, their respective dates come with an attached to-be-confirmed note — so things could change.
LocoRoco 2 is slated for November 21, while the new Buzz! game is set a week later on the 28th. November 21 is a rather early date for LocoRoco 2 considering that Japan will be getting the title on December 4. We suppose Europeans love the smug-looking blobs more than they do in Asia. Meanwhile, North America will still have to settle with 2009 for a release date.

Sony’s latest hardware revision, the PSP-3000 aka PSP Brite, is doing well in standing up against pirates, hackers and their tools. According to PSP World, previous exploits which allow access to kernel memory and firmware are now patched up — no way getting in there now.
Infamous hackers like Dark Alex have yet to find a way through the PSP Brite’s new specs. Other hackers are getting frustrated; take Royginald from the Philippines who has swapped in the PSP Slim’s CPU into a PSP Brite while keeping the screen and case intact. All that to run custom firmware and homebrew which doesn’t even run properly because of signal output differences. We wonder if Sony has finally found a solution to its custom firmware woes.

One didn’t think that Kefka, the insane clown-like villain with the distinctive laugh from Final Fantasy VI, could get any creepier. But he just totally did in the latest Dissida art of him, as revealed by Shonen Jump — look at the way he’s ogling at poor Terra/Tina. She ain’t no damsel in distress though; her EX mode named “Trance” is looking pretty powerful. Take a look at the full scan over at PSPHyper.

Neverland Card Battles merges the strategy-RPG genre with the core gameplay mechanics of a trading card game. It’s a card game first, an SRPG second, and this is clearly evident after having played and finished the title this past week. We know that a good number of our readers have read our preview from last month and have kept interest in the title. With the game releasing today, we know you all want to know: what’s the final verdict? Read on after the break to find out.
